Carrie Fischer has moved on. She was an addiction survivor, a mental health advocate and a particular type of role model for young girls.
For me, she was Princess Leia, crack shot, don’t take no guff from the boys, make friends with the locals and brave enough to walk into deadly situations for those she cared about. She was a different type of princess. A princess that got things done, led armies and was the face of the Republic. Han and Luke fought the wars. Leia did the hard work of herding cats, negotiating treaties and bringing in allies to their cause.
She was the emotional glue of the Rebellion. Without her, keeping hope alive that together they could do this, defeat the Empire and restore the Republic, there would have been no reason to fight.
There weren’t enough Princess Leia’s. There weren’t enough Carrie Fischers. Survivors. Fighters. Advocates. Role models that being a princess was more than a pretty dress.
May her legacy continue. May she get more recognition of the strong person she was and the causes she fought for. May there be a little more light in the galaxy. Rest in peace, Carrie Fischer. May the force be with you and with us all.
